Hicks' Family- Our Newest, Most Exciting Addition!!!

Finally we can make the announcement we all have been waiting for... I'm pregnant!!!! :D We're expecting our first little one May 29th, 2011. We are elated and just feel so blessed. I'm still in shock and can't believe we're actually going to have a little one join our family! I mean Lily was definitely an addition, but this is just amazing and is going to be such a great journey. We found out on a Monday morning right after I woke up, before Travis left for work/rotation. I was basically still sleeping, as anyone who knows me would know mornings aren't my thing. So I was definitely in shock and felt like I was dreaming. I happened to have a doctor's appointment that morning so we got to do blood work and make sure the stick test was correct. Three weeks later we had an ultrasound and got to see our teeny tiny baby. We also got to hear the heartbeat which we weren't expecting to hear, so that was awesome. After eight weeks of being pregnant we just couldn't keep a secret any longer and told our families one night and friends the next morning. Thank you all for sharing in our excitement! We are so looking forward to our newest, most exciting adventure yet!

New Nephew!- David Andrew Capparelli

We are so excited for our newest, cutest little nephew, David Andrew Capparelli! Travis' sister and her husband Shawn had their first little one on Tuesday, October 12th. He is just adorable and totally looks like his daddy. David's older sister, Brighton, is so excited to be a big sister and loves being part of the new family changes. Kristin is doing well and recovering from her surgery. We got to visit them in the hospital about 10 hours after David was born. So adorable!! And I'm not just saying that. :) David was named after his grandpa, Travis' Dad. It's so fun to be an Aunt & Uncle to another little bebe. :)

Quail Hunt- Opening Day

It was a warm day for October for the opening day of quail season. Travis and I went out with Travis' Dad and good family friend, Eddie. We rode our ATV's and found a few coveys here and there. They were pretty quick though and we had a hard time keeping track of them once we jumped them. They weren't as big of coveys as last year, which was a surprise since we thought with such a wet spring there'd be tons of birds. So the guys each got one or more, but my shot was totally off :( So no birds for me. Lots of shooting for me though. ha! :) It was still a fun day and was way cool that we ran into this tortoise.

Fillmore Scouting

Travis and I finally made it out of town together. yeah! :) It's been way too long since we went on a mini vacation together. Our friends Nick & Mindy invited us to go with them to Nick's Grandma's house in Fillmore Utah again this year and to go scouting for his deer tag coming up in a couple weeks. The weather was a little warmer than expected, but yet again it was still in the 100's in Vegas. Up at the higher elevations it was cooler and the trees had already turned from red to yellow. It was gorgeous!


Friday morning, Mindy, Nick, Cael, Travis and I got up before dawn to scout for deer. We saw a few elk, does and 1 spike. We also ran into a couple grouse, but no bucks worth following. Our ATV ride was 6 hours long with lots of dust and bumps. I definitely got a core work out sitting on the back of our 4wheeler. The next 2 days we went out with the guys in the afternoon and enjoyed General Conference in the morning.


While waiting for the guys to return we spotted a bunch of turkeys on the hill behind Grandma's house. They're wild and just way cool to see such huge birds roaming around.


The last afternoon up on the mountain I went on a hike with Trav. On our way back in he spotted 3 does and then a good size buck. We somehow got in a position for me to take a picture of him and discovered that he's a pretty good size non-typical. Still needs some height, but pretty cool drop downs and everything. So the guys got pretty excited about that and tried to find him again the next morning with no luck. Nick's uncle and cousin had tags and did find a buck to take, but his cousins' muzzle loader didn't go off when he pulled the trigger. Just wasn't meant to be for that buck.


Overall it was a such a nice trip for Travis and I to just get away and relax and enjoy the outdoors.

Three to Cali

This last weekend me and Travis' parents headed to Southern California for 2 reasons: Theresa's wedding,and for Linda's birthday get away. She loves to go to the LA County fair so that was her birthday gift this year. :) Most of the drive there Linda and I chit chatted and got our kitty fill at the El Pollo Loco we stopped for dinner. There were 6 stray calico kittens there! We of course had to feed them and were so sad to leave them behind. They are sooo sweet. I of course took pictures. :)


We stayed in an awesome hotel with a free HUGE breakfast, like they make omelets to order! It was great. So Saturday morning we ate breakfast and they dropped me off at the Newport Beach Temple for the wedding. Can I just say that the Newport Beach Temple is AMAZING! It's totally different then any other temple I've seen!


I met Mary there and chit chatted and got caught up all the way up until the minute we got into the sealing. It was just so hard to sit still in the waiting room when we hadn't seen each for over 3 years! And speaking of years gone by, the last time I had seen Tee before her wedding was MY wedding! 4 years ago! Crazy. Anyway, Theresa was of course gorgeous and I was so teary-eyed at her wedding. I am sooo happy for her and glad that she finally has someone of her own. Marcus & Theresa Bess. So adorable!



After the wedding there was a luncheon that Jocie showed up for since she happened to be in town for work. It was great seeing her, but it was too bad we couldn't spend more time with her.


That night was the open house where Mary and I helped set up and then sat down and looked at old freshman year photos and totally reminisced the good ole days. :) We saw Theresa & Marcus off as they snuck away from the gathering. Mary and I got out of the clean up and enjoyed chatting all the way back to the hotel. It was just a perfect girls day and so nice to see old friends!

The next day Linda, David and I headed out for the beach just to walk in the sand and hear the waves. It was kind of chilly, and overcast, but it was still nice. We went to Corona Del Mar. Later we met up with Aunt Cheryl at Toms Farms-very cool and huge farmers market, for Linda's Birthday treat. Then were back on the road. It was such a nice trip and so nice of Travis' parents to take me along.

Kristin's Babyshower

It's getting closer- our newest nephew will be born this October and to celebrate we (meaning mother-in-law, Linda and I) hosted Kristin's babyshower! Linda went all out making tons of food and buying a bunch of cute decorations. I helped with a couple of dishes, hosting and set up and clean up. All of our good family friends and extended family were able to make it. It was so nice seeing everyone! We of course played a couple games, chatted a bunch, got tours of Kristin's new home and watched her open tons of gifts. Little David is going to be the cutest kid around! So many clothes and blankets and the necessities as well. I had to include this picture of the camo clothes because they were just too cute and so applicable in this family. :)


I braved the sewing machine and made her a "hooter hider" (aka nursing cover) which actually turned out really well. Travis put in his 2 cents and contributed to the gift giving with a stuffed animal deer. It was a great little party; all that's left now is the baby!
